What does your job entail?

The Land + Nature Skills Service (LANSS)  is a partnership organisation which aims to promote learning and training opportunities in the land and nature sectors in Cumbria. LANSS also liaises with businesses, training providers and learners to highlight skills gaps and barriers, facilitating projects and activities to overcome them.

My job role at LANSS is incredibly varied, allowing me to be involved in a wide array of projects. One aspect of my role is to create content for marketing and communications, helping to promote and inform the public of the Land + Nature Skills Service and the work we do, this includes everything from designing and producing social media content, flyers and stall banners to producing formal filmed interviews.

In my role, I also plan and organise outreach activities for both the public and businesses, which can include things like attending careers fairs, events, and giving talks to schools in Cumbria. Through my role as a facilitator I also liaise with businesses, training providers and prospective learners to assist in progressing their learning, training and career journeys.

Why did you join the Cumbria Talent Force?

Having grown up in Cumbria, I feel it is important to help young people in Cumbria, especially with developing their career pathways and I wish I had been more aware of the wide variety of careers available in the county when I was making decisions about what career I saw myself in and the pathways to achieve it.

Cumbria has an incredibly diverse workforce with a huge range of career opportunities and if sharing my experience can help highlight these opportunities and help students make informed decisions about their future then I felt I should take up that opportunity and I believe others should too.
